It is obvious that the reporter had no profound sight in society. It shows a tendency that the article was written for those new leaders of some new groups for the lack of funding from those so-called rich Chinese immigrants, or at least, the reporter was in the shoes of those new leaders. If you want to get money or time from some people, you certainly need at least to address some concerns of them or have compelling business case to show that you can do something worth to be funded.
Even the new immigrants are complaining the ability of some new community groups: said they couldn’t solve pragmatic problems, and what they mostly provided were low-cost, therefore usually low-quality entertaining activities. According to the article, those rich immigrants generally have been here for many years. Certainly they have developed their friendship circles and they have their ways to get entertainments. How can the reporter or those group leaders expect these ‘rich’ people to get out their orbits to involve in something that delivers nothing but wasting time and money.
As I already addressed in another post, people have common interests, especially for those people who come from same area and culture, there would be more interests of common able to be shared than in a group of people from different backgrounds and cultures. But, have those leaders of community groups figured out those common interests and the methodologies to integrate them? The realty seems saying no. We are not in short of money; we are in short of leadership, in short of visionary.
It is easy to be imaged that rich immigrants would met new immigrants in their routine life and some of them had relatives or friends newly migrated to Canada. They helped them to settle down and some other things. So, it is easy to get this kind of conclusion that either the reporter was not doing thinking by him or herself, or he or she was biased. The tendency of this article resulted in avoiding to address fundamental problems associated with those new community groups but put blames on other people instead. It will not help anything, but just worsen the relationships between our own people.
