稱經濟呈好轉 象 保守黨料今秋避過大選
(渥太華27日加新社電)聯邦保守黨在渥太華舉行兩天的競選訓練營﹐在營中透露心聲﹐表示經濟有好轉舻象﹐黨人受鼓舞﹐相信秋天大選的機會不大。如果要選舉﹐估計最早也要等到明年秋天。
保守黨的內閣部長、國會議員及全國各地的候選人齊集渥太華﹐在市中心的酒店接受兩天的大選培訓﹐保守黨國會議員團也在這幾天內開會。
許多人說﹐他們不相信今秋有選舉﹐因為加拿大經濟前景更明朗。
加拿大央行行長簡尼(Mark Carney)上周說﹐加拿大或已走出經濟衰退期﹐踏出緩慢復蘇的步代。與G8集團國其他成員比較﹐加拿大的財政狀況更好。
另一方面﹐總理哈珀經歷衰退最嚴重的時期﹐他的支持率似乎沒有跌落太多。
體育國務部長倫葛禮(Gary Lunn)說﹕「總的來說﹐我認為情況比預想的好﹐我們還未完全走出衰退期﹐但肯定前景明朗。如果我們舉行選舉﹐預期最早日期也是1年以後﹐在2010年秋季﹐許多人都這麼說。」
卑詩省國會議員甘明斯(John Cummins)說﹐情況屬於「溫和的樂觀」。在他所屬省份卑詩省﹐仍有人擔心經濟衰退持續更久﹐因為當地的林業及其他方面的情況艱難。他說﹐以總理哈珀的經濟成績﹐反對黨難以觸發大選。
國防部長馬逵(Peter MacKay)說﹐大選沒有引領經濟向正確方向發展的作用。
對於出席者來說﹐保守黨本周的競選訓練營是鼓舞士氣的大會。許多演講者和培訓員傳授競選方面的各種基礎知識﹐從正確的帳目知識、選舉的申報程序﹐到如何應付棘手的記者。與會者更有機會與黨內知名人物近距離接觸。

Record numbers forced to rely on EI to provide for their families as unemployment crisis deepens

OTTAWA – While the Harper Conservatives gather for a party at the Prime Minister’s retreat outside Ottawa, nearly 800,000 families are being forced to rely on Employment Insurance to put food on their tables, Liberal House Leader Ralph Goodale said today.
“The government has grown out-of-touch with the concerns of ordinary Canadians as unemployment continues to soar,” said Mr. Goodale. “Stephen Harper has nothing to celebrate while a record number of jobless Canadians need EI to make ends meet.”
Statistics Canada reported today that in May 2009, 778,700 people received EI benefits, an increase of 65,600 or 9.2% from the month earlier. This spike in EI benefits is this highest since such data became available in 1997.
“The sad reality is these numbers only scratch the surface of the hardships many Canadian families are facing,” said Mr. Goodale. “For everyone getting EI benefits, there’s someone else who’s lost their job but can’t access Employment Insurance.”
Among the provinces hardest hit, Alberta and British Columbia and Ontario have suffered the brunt of the recession, recording spikes in EI benefits of 236%, 115% and 100% respectively since May 2008.
“This government and their economic forecasts can’t be trusted – and we can’t trust them to put the interests of Canadians hurt by this recession first either.”
