自从7月16日因管道爆炸引起大量石油在大连泄漏以来已经有很多人组织起来参加清污工作，他们由当地的渔民，普通的居民以及政府工作人员组成，共动用8000条渔船，250只石头打捞船，大部分的清理工作都是依靠手工来完成的。据当局称，石油污染扩展的面积已达430平方公里，目前已经阻止该污染进一步向国际公海海域扩散。据新华社报道，此次爆炸事件的原因在于脱硫剂的过量注入。工人们目前仍在努力的进行清污工作，绿色和平组织的人员对清污工作密切的进行监督。据中石油上周日的发言，大连港现在已恢复两个石油工作平台。
