What I want to tell you is :
1). If you just want to listen to someone, it is ok to listen to georgyfred. Then you can forget it very soon.
2). However, if you want to follow her idea to arrange your child's education, or trust her to go to a private school which hires her as a representative, you are trapped! She is a big lier to make money!
What I want to tell you is that there is no such thing in Toronto, or in the world!!!!

实际上加拿大的各个学校差异并不很大.教育水平和教师的素质都差不了哪去.没必要硬去炒作什么"好学区" "名校",不要把孩子和家长拉进国内教育的那种怪圈中去!
前几年,我也把孩子送到"名校",那时孩子作业确实很多,加上各位家长怕孩子落后,拼命的补习,就连周末也要去参加各种"班".真是孩子家长一起忙; 即使这样成绩还排不上前几名;因为别人家可能更忙,参加更多的"班",做了更多的作业; 更可怕的是一段时间后,孩子身体开始透资,眼镜不到一年时间换了两付;最令家长担心的是孩子的自信心总是树不起来;
后来我们同其他学生的家长多次专门讨论此事.通过深入的分析我们总结出:
1.我们从国内刚来时,都有追"名校"的心理,加上某些行业人员为了商业利益进行的炒作,使我们共同走如这个怪圈,从此一日复一日的忙碌,跟在国内哪有两样?
2.进了"名校"后,孩子成绩没上去,自信心下降,身体健康状况下降,只有近视的度数是上升的.
3.所谓的"名校"里,聚集了很多像我们这样,才来不久,脑子里有较强追"名校"心理的我们华人的子女.他们之间在校大多仍用中文交流.所以英文水平的进步远远慢于在其他学校学习的华人子女.通过安省的语文统一考试评定,已证实这一点.
4.我们三位孩子的家长达成以上共识是在仅剩不到一个月就期末了,所以我们商好:在下个学期一定转到其他学校.
那已经是两年多前的事情了,现在回想起来,特别是对比转出来前后的情况,我们真的感到当时转出的决定是多么正确.

In Canada, there's a gifted program for those students who is able to learn more than the same aged kids, those progarms are available in one of the schools in the district, start from primary to high school, but need to pass the entering exam including written and oral.
This program is part of the special enducation in Canada, in those years that the education budget was good, even the students in high school could get the free bus tickets to go to school every day

Let me tell you my experience.
We are high educated family.We used to study and do some reaserch in the US famouse university and got PHD AND MASTER degree.We landed here two years ago.My daughter went to a public element school in Scarborough .She was doing great .Teachers are great too. But about a years ago I got the information from freasier institute .It shows that school ranking is so bad .so I thought we should transfer my daughter to a famouse school.Half years ago we bought a house in Northyork,and my daughter went to a top 1 element school which EQAO score is number 1 in ONT .BUt everything is so so so bad.WE are so upset.90 percent students are chinese.They only care about study and themself ,never want to help each other.ALL equipment of the school are even worse than the old school.Especially the quality of teachers are very bad.She never encourge you to do something.BECAUSE ALL STUDENTS LIKE STUDY HARD AT HOME and teached by their parents.so the teachers are just relax.The school only foucs on math and english ,nothing after school...

i just can't believe there are so many so-called wise advisor among old immigrants here.
i have been abroad > 10 years and brought with me sufficient money to stay for 3 years without need to work. buy a house to be a landloard and set it up as new immigrants centre or invest it in children's future by just buy a condo while still with good money buffer? i chose the later one.
do you really know the the criteria of the good schools here?
an indian has to drive more than 3 hours to send and pickup his 2 gifted kids everyday. for what? good school!
a father has to fly from calgary to attend a parent meeting here in toronto per month. for what? good school!
there are weekly parent association meeting for donation, courses setup discussion. for what, good school!
if you are really want to save every penny, go ahead.

u r right, among my friends, most of them spend their money on HOUSE, but save every penny from their children's education, assumingly the public school is good enough in North America.
But a few of them do the opposite, they invest more money on their children's education. Good private school is a good choice, cuz the famous universities here prefer to choose students from these schools according to their well-recorded history, and I l have learned those students stay in school much longer than those in public schools. They get better education and much better opportunities.
One of my friends just sent 2 of his sons to Stanford, and he told me this is his best investment he ever made, cuz HOUSE is really SHEN WAI ZHI WU, can not compare to the whole life good feeling and happiness coming with their beloved children's successes.
And I really do not think those who put most of their money on real estate are wise enough, only one thing is sure that they r doing real estate agents big big favor.

You are focusing on public schools where you don't need to pay anything.
here is what i found regarding schools in toronto.
i spent >half year studying eductation/schools in toronto before I moved here. And I spent whole day in toronto reference libarary to look up the good schools before i decided to buy a condo (not house). There are private schools, public schools, catholic schools here. For private and publich schools, there are two kinds for each: special education schools(gifted or specially good at some areas such as art, sport, computer, music, etc) and general schools. Most local canadians would choose special schools (whatever private or public) for their children as it gives their children additional marks to get university scholarship when they apply for it.
See the difference between local canadian and chinese?
Why do A.Y Jackson local neighbours like to sell the house to chinese? it is not a good school! Why aren't there house listing around Earl Haig school? It is all occupied by italians and they never sell their houses there. i have a friend(chinese from taiwan) who told me she is the only chinese in the neighbourhood and she bought the house 20 years ago.
Schools' heads don't care about the school scoring like EQAO; but the local canadians care about thier children' future scholarship.
As to me, I pay C$10K for my child annually for the private school. 100% of the graduates of the school get scholarship every year. 40% of them get scholarship from Harvard and Stanford. 10% get scholarship from Cambridge and Oxford.Rest of them get scholarship from most of famous canadian universities. I am a new immigrant too, if 2.5 years is still considered short.
When you pay say C$30K more for a house close to so-called good school, why not use the money to pay private school to get scholarship in future? do u really care about your children's future/investment or your money?
You find your kid's doesn't have a lot homework to do, one or two hours per day is enough. This is from public school. can you imagine a gifted kid has to study and finish homework until 11:00 pm everyday? it is from private school. When you are satisfied with your children studying french and english here; can you imagine a private school student is studying french, english, latin and german in grade 8 and 9?

i am not going to argue with you. it is published in the website and it is recommended by the education doctors in toronto public school board.
when you say'cheating', it is the mind from chinese. you need to establish creditability here. so to the school.
frankly tell you it is setup by a famous university here.
