Years ago, Liberal announced it would close coal-power plants and went for nuclear plants and natural gas plants. At that time, it was a hot topic not only in Canada but also in the U.S. and Europe. One of the reasons was coal-power plants were dirty. At that time, my friend said Liberal could not close the coal-power plants because we still could not find replacement. Sure, later Liberal needed to push back the time but my friend still said it was impossible. Aslo, at that time, Liberal did not tell people Hydro already spent millions of dollars and finished the modernization its coal-power plants. Our coal-power plants are up to today's standard and not dirty. But people always use old data and old coal-power plants to show people how bad coal power plants are.
Now, Liberals are talking about "green power" because it is a hot topic around the world and I am quite sure most of money will go to Liberals' supporters.
I have a friend who worked for Hydro for 25 years and then became a consultant for Hydro. Hydro is a cash cow for the government and the government will do whatever it takes to make more money. The government will hire some consultants (just like my friend) and ask them to make a report. The government will give the consultants the data and tell the consutants what the government wants them to write in the report. Of course, the consultants will write a report which shows the government plan is right. My friend said that even Ontario can go for "green power" 100%, we still need to build more regular power plants as back-up. Green power is not stable and is not a good way for large scale usage. It is like you have a limousine for delivery but you need to keep a big dependable truck because you don't know when the limo will broken down. You pay more for nothing.
