Savas Kyriacou also revealed that the girl who died was 15 years old, not 19 as originally reported.

Among the wounded was Helen Yiu, 20. From Hong Kong and attending university here, she was visiting her aunt and uncle in Markham. She was shopping for gifts on a street that Torontonians like to boast is the longest in the world.

Toll mounts after deadly shooting amid Toronto shoppers
Last Updated Mon, 26 Dec 2005 2034 EST
CBC News
The number of known victims is climbing after a shooting amid hundreds of shoppers in downtown Toronto on Boxing Day, with police saying a girl has died and at least six other people have injuries.
Officers initially said only four people had been wounded in the gunfire, but they told CBC News at about 7:30 p.m. EST that at least seven people had been shot.
The shootings occurred at 5:20 p.m. EST along a strip of stores, restaurants and bars on one of the best-known streets in the country, Yonge Street, about two blocks north of Dundas Street and the Eaton Centre shopping mall.
Police officials earlier told CBC News shortly that a girl, who had been rushed to hospital in serious condition, had died.
They didn't give her name, age or details of her injuries.
Many shoppers oblivious until people 'hit the ground'
Police initially indicated that most of the victims were under age 18.
Officials have cordoned off at least three blocks of Yonge Street.
CBC TV reporter Ioanna Roumeliotis, who was at the scene, said several people told her they heard "cracking noises" during the shootings.
"But because it's such a busy day, because it is Boxing Day and there were so many people out and about, a lot of people didn't even realize what had happened until people actually hit the ground," Roumeliotis said.
Two suspects in custody
Confusion initially reigned at the scene, with early reports incorrectly saying four people were shot and one person killed.
Two people were arrested at the nearby Castle Frank subway station.
The charges weren't immediately made public.
Police have not released the names or ages of the victims or suspects.
Record number of shooting deaths in Toronto
Toronto attracted attention nationwide because of a spate of shooting deaths in 2005.
There were a record number of deaths by gunfire – 52 – reported by Dec. 26, out of 78 slayings in total.
These included a high-profile case in November in which a young man was shot and killed outside a church where he was attending the funeral of another shooting victim.

The rash of shootings prompted police to launch a gun amnesty program in November. However, of the 261 weapons collected, only 33 were handguns.
The Ontario government recently announced more police and Crown prosecutors for the guns and gangs task force in Canada's largest city.
In early December, Prime Minister Paul Martin chose Toronto to announce plans to introduce a law that would virtually ban handgun ownership across Canada, and double minimum prison sentences for some gun offences.

CBC News
Gunfire broke out amid hundreds of shoppers in downtown Toronto on Boxing Day, injuring five young people and landing one girl in hospital, police say.
Police said the girl was in serious condition, but gave no further details of her injuries.
Officers have cordoned off three blocks along Yonge Street, where the shootings took place at about 5:20 p.m. EST just north of the Eaton Centre shopping mall.
"A lot of people didn't even realize what had happened until people actually hit the ground," said CBC reporter Ioanna Roumeliotis, who was at the scene.
She said all of the victims were less than 18 years old.
The incident occurred on the corner of Yonge and Elm streets, about two blocks north of the major road Dundas Street, which borders the mall's north end.
Early reports incorrectly said four people were shot and one person killed. Officials later confirmed there were five victims and no deaths.
Two people were arrested at the nearby Castle Frank subway station, police said.
Officials didn't release the names of the suspects or victims.
