Broadcasting Public Notices CRTC 2005-124
Dear Ms Diane Rheaume,
I support the CCTA's application for the authority for cable companies to distribute in Canada nine television services from China.
I immigrated from China with my husband and daughter in 1998. I subscribed of most of these 9 Chinese channels when I was in China, and I love them. I think most of the programs are positive, healthy and entertaining. My daughter grows up in Canada. She went to China for summer vacation last year, and soon she felt in love with those children program. After she came back to Toronto, she was still wandering about the faith of those characters in TV series she watched. Her grandpa had to mail her the VCD copy so as to let her complete the missing story. Our local Mandarin program for children and woman are just too little. These 9 Chinese channels are well fit to this requirement.
I simply don’t believe those channels could upset the Canadian value. The best part of Canadian value is fair and tolerant. I don’t consent of legalizing marijuana and same-sex marriage, but I won’t agree to treat them as criminal. I don’t feel comfortable when watching violence movie or Playboy channel, but I won’t suggest shutting these channels down. I don’t think it is wise or funny to make fun of Prophet Muhammad in cartoons, but I disagree to someone‘s notion to close off that Denmark press. So if somebody feels these Chinese programs disturbing, just don’t bother to watch them. Why do they think they could make choice for others?
If the dissidents think they can represent majority of Chinese immigrants, I would make a proposal here: allow both “9 China channels package” and the dissidents program be distribute in the market. Just make sure they are in separate packages. I believe the market will easily tell who the main stream is. Plus, who is the liar.
Sincerely
"goldy"
