Chinese paper have a history of exaggerating the good points and never reported the bad; the following was in the original report but was never mentioned - "the downside of Chinese-style economic reform: a dismal environmental record, a repressive political climate and the breakdown of the country’s health-care system....".
It gave the average chinese a wrong sense of superiroty to the point of arrogance.

Canada have a huge trade deficit with China (4.8 billion vs 22.4 bilion cdn$ in 2005), more so per captial than the US, it's not that Canada doesn't want to sell to China but there are a lot more obstacles to enter the Chinese market. It's never a fair play for China, history is repeating itself.
Dr. Cooper is a well known economist but she has no real life experience trading with China. Who doesn't want to sell to China? It's common sense but hard to implement because of horrendous red tapes and restrictions.
