FYI, you can check MP Oilivia Chow's Webside for details http://www.oliviachow.ca/ Olivia Chow's motion (from http://www.oliviachow.ca/page/171): Motion: Support World War II 'Comfort Women' Sat 24 Mar 2007. M-291 — March 15, 2007 — Ms. Chow (Trinity—Spadina) — That, in the opinion of the House, the government should urge the Prime Minister and the Parliament of Japan to: 👼 pass a resolution in the Diet to formally apologize to the women who were coerced into military sexual slavery during the Second World War and were euphemized as “comfort women” by the Japanese Imperial Army; and 🍺 provide just and honorable compensation to these victims. » Privacy Policy » Contact © 2007 Olivia Chow, MP, all rights reserved. Related news (from http://www.oliviachow.ca/page/142): NEWS: MP Olivia Chow Calls on Canada to Rebuke Japan PM’s Sex Slave Denial Tue 06 Mar 2007. TORONTO – Trinity-Spadina MP Olivia Chow, representing thousands of women of Asian descent in Canada, has called on Prime Minister Stephen Harper to use the occasion of International Women’s Day to officially rebuke the Prime Minister of Japan for his outrageous denial of the Japanese Army’s wartime crimes against female sex slaves in World War II. “History denied is justice denied,” says Chow, referring to Japanese PM Shinzo Abe’s outrageous claim last week that there was no proof that women of other Asian cultures were forced into Japanese military brothels during the war. “The historic record is absolutely clear,” says Chow, pointing to exhaustive evidence that over 200,000 women from Korea, China, Taiwan and the Philippines were forced to act as ‘comfort ladies’. She noted that the Japanese government had previously acknowledged these war crimes, although no formal apology or redress has been received. Crimes against women such as sexual abuse are a terrible consequence of war and must be seen and treated as crimes against humanity. She noted this abuse was a horrific example of both the degradation of women and the degradation of other cultures. “Canada must take a stand and condemn the acts themselves as well as the current leadership of Japan for their denial and belittlement of the acts,” says Chow. “Canada acted last year to right the historic wrong of the Chinese Head tax in Canada. Let us use our influence in the world to right the historic wrong done to Asian women in the last war. Canada has a responsibility to urge Japan – a major ally and trading partner – to officially and formally apologize in its Parliament for these war crimes, and offer at least symbolic compensation to the women who were forced into sex slavery.” Chow noted that MPs of Asian descent from other political parties have also condemned the Japanese Prime Minister. “When MPs return to the House of Commons after the break, I ill seek unanimous consent on a motion to condemn the Japanese Prime Minister’s outrageous remarks,” she says. “In the meantime, let Mr. Harper stand up to Canadian values and do the right thing on International Women’s Day – on behalf of all women in Canada.” The motion is as follows: M-291 — March 15, 2007 — Ms.
