When the patients who are currently on Zocor (Simvastatin) or Lipitor (Atorvatation) came in to fill the antibioctics such as Clarithromycin and Erythromycin, normally the pharmacists or MD would tell the patients to hold the Zocor or Lipitor for the duration during the treatment with antibiotic if their high Cholestrol was undercontrolled. As Zocor and Lipitor was metabolized by enzyme 3A4 and Clarithromycin and erythromycin was enzyme 3A4 inhibitor. If both of them used together, resulting in high plasma concentration of Zocor/Lipitor in the body, may cause severe mucle pain or break down of muscle, resulting in the damage of the kidney.
