On Mar. 20, 2002, her daughter Chemere “Crystal” Roache was outside a Rexdale nightclub when she was caught in a hail of bullets believed to be meant for her boyfriend. The 18-year-old was sitting behind the wheel of her car outside the Apollo on Racine Rd., near Kipling Ave. and Rexdale Blvd., when her boyfriend, who was standing next to her vehicle, became embroiled in an argument around 1:30 a.m. Four men drew their guns and opened fire. Crystal, who was shot in the head in the melee, sped off in her car and crashed into a tree 100 metres away. Her boyfriend suffered a minor gunshot wound to his leg. Nine months later, on Christmas Eve of 2002, Yannick Antwon Roache, who had just turned 18, was shot to death at a North York highrise in front of his girlfriend and her two young sons, aged 3 years and 2 months. The trio had just exited a taxi around 6:30 p.m. and he was strapping the eldest boy into his stroller when two men approached. There was a brief exchange of words, then one of the men pulled out a gun and fired. He collapsed in a pool of blood as his girlfriend and her kids watched in horror. Three siblings, all killed violently.
