The lat time we took in a mass exodus of refugees, and in fact every other time the cost of living in Canada was much more affordable and an average man with a regular job could own a home and support his family.
This is no longer the case and in Urban centres two parent working families are struggling to afford their mouldy basement apartments. This is the main difference.

Good point. A lot has changed indeed in all kinds of ways, from the economy to the social conditions to communications, etc. Using the past to predict the present based on a few superficial commonalities is of limited value.
There seems to be little appetite on the part of the government and its supporters for a real discussion of all those issues, just a rush to get it done....before people change their minds?

Well said. The house price inflation which the Bank of Canada, with support from the political elite, has stoked has undermined the capacity of Canada to be as open to a mass of refugees as it was in previous eras.
