According to Statistics Canada, 35,700 jobs were lost in November, pushing the unemployment rate to 7.1 per cent, up from 6.6 per cent at the start of the year.Even many of the big banks, which recently reported strong annual profits, have been trimming their payrolls as they confront slowing revenue growth.Meeting Mr. McCallum’s target will also require companies to continue giving beyond the holiday season.
