英文报道原文在此——----------------------------------------------------- 《Victim tried to 'play dead' to stop Burnaby road-rage beating》 Published on: August 9, 2016 Metro Vancouver — The victim in an alleged Burnaby road rage assault says there’s no excuse for the type of beating he received Monday evening, one in which he even tried to ‘play dead’ to fend off his attackers. The victim was in a car being driven by his girlfriend Monday evening, attempting to make a left turn off Kingsway near Patterson, when the driver behind them “lost it.” The victim said there wasn’t adequate time or space to make a left turn, which is why his girlfriend stopped. “Let’s say I had flipped them off and we were supposed to turn – it still wouldn’t make it OK,” said the 20-year-old man who asked not to be identified for safety reasons. “I don’t know what they’re trying to get at.” When the victim got out of his car to speak with the honking driver, he realized the driver was on his cellphone and had rolled up his window so the victim got back into the car and the couple continued on. “Right when we were turning, he was driving really erratically,” the victim said. “He tried to hit us with his car.” The victim said he and his girlfriend turned onto a side street near the victim’s home to let the driver go on but that the driver reversed his vehicle and followed them. When the victim got out of his car to confront the driver, he alleges the driver tried to run him over with his vehicle, and then did a U-turn to face the victim in the dead-end street, just moments before a second car carrying three other men arrived behind him. “They showed up behind me and all three of them in the car jumped and he ran toward me,” he said. “So I had two directions of guys coming at me.” The victim said he ran toward a nearby home to get help but that everything happened too quickly. The victim said the men caught up to him on the front porch of the home and allegedly began assaulting him. “There’s no words said or anything. It was just horrible,” the victim recalled Tuesday. “It was like, feet, hands, all over the place.” “There’s no fighting off four guys like that. I tried to play dead halfway through … but they kept kicking me on the ground.” Ginger Sedlarova was at home tidying up when she heard a loud banging at her front door. Initially, Sedlarova thought it was a break-in attempt. “I was absolutely frightened. I had no idea what was happening,” said Sedlarova, who is a graphic artist at The Province and Vancouver Sun. “It happened incredibly fast – they beat the crap out of him and then suddenly, there was silence and then I heard footsteps running away.” Sedlarova then opened the door to find dirt everywhere and a smashed flower pot, as well as the victim bleeding and upside-down on her front steps. She called 911, as the victim struggled to stand up to go check on his girlfriend, who was still hiding in the car parked down the street. “We found her and only then did he allow himself to pass out,” said Sedlarova, adding the victim later returned after visiting the hospital to apologize for what happened at her front door. “I’m still flabbergasted at that but I said it was perfectly fine and not to worry about it.” The victim said he was taken to Vancouver General Hospital where a series of scans and tests showed he did not sustain any internal injuries. “I literally felt like my head was cracked open to the skull because there was so much blood,” the victim said Tuesday, noting he received several stitches for two different wounds on his head, as well as bruised eyebrows, a black eye, and banged-up elbows. The victim says the response from the public has been mixed, and that he’s frustrated there are people who are excusing the alleged assault because they “don’t know the full story and they don’t think that’s how it really happened.” “How can something so crazy happen out of something so small?” the victim asked. “It doesn’t make sense. Guys like that play dirty and they obviously don’t care.” Burnaby RCMP are investigating the assault and were on scene Monday evening to collect evidence and statements, but have not released any further details.
