Your main point is not right.
1)No one will check whether the tv is the same brand or even whether is newer in other rooms. there are no these elements in the contract.
2)Currently in any hotel, the booking prices for the same level rooms are totally different based on how you booking the room, from which web sites etc.
so your point cannot stand.
Anyway I don't want to convince you what the hotel's manager did was wrong.. everyone has the right to have different opinions. I just think if the hotel is being run in that way, it will be out of the market soon if there are other competitors..

you might be the one noticed the difference of those tv sets
in case you were in a meeting so your colleagues taking the same type rooms
or occasionally your family go travelling together and taking the same type rooms
because you care how many days it would take for replacing a new tv set
that's not even my point
my point is, there are rules in the market
and the one follow the rules the best would win
