半自动手枪和转轮手枪在加拿大归类为限制类火器，民众可以合法拥有。 政府直言不讳，守法民众拥有手枪可以，但要受限制。手枪在运输上的限制首先体现在运输规则比长枪要求高。 买好了枪付好了钱，就能拿走了吗？太天真了，还需要打电话给枪支管理局告知他们，然后他们会给你发一封信也就是允许你购买和运输这支枪的许可。运输手枪时枪支不可装弹与上膛。枪支本身要上锁（扳机锁或枪机锁）。同时，上锁的手枪要放置在不透明、不易打破的硬质枪箱内，枪箱也要上锁。 如果暂时将手枪留置在无人看守的汽车内，必须将枪箱锁在汽车后备箱。如果该款车型没有后备箱，则要将枪箱遮盖，锁在车厢内。 如此重重加锁，在出行遭遇紧急情况时将手枪拿出取用几乎是一项不可能的任务。 手枪运输更厉害的限制是手枪不可随便带出门。 现行加拿大控枪法规只允许合法拥有手枪者在六种具体情形下运输手枪离开居所： 1. 往返靶场； 2. 往返皇家骑警火器局（例如枪支验证、销毁等）； 3. 往返枪支修理店； 4. 往返枪展； 5. 往返出入境口岸（用于枪支合法出入境运输）； 6. 将新购枪支运回家。 拥枪者每次运送手枪出门，必须是正在进行规定的上述6种事项之一，而且采用“合理直接路径”。此外，前往的目的地（靶场、枪展或者枪支修理店）必须是在皇家骑警火器局正式注册的合规企业或机构。 最为合规无疑的情况，是每次前往打靶都从家里直去直回。吃饱饭，加满油，路途中，不停留。 人有三急。打靶路上在咖啡店用个洗手间，喝杯咖啡，大概是可以的。为了下班顺路直接去靶场，早上上班时就把枪带着放在车里行不行呢？一旦发生枪支失窃，警方会不会认为你违反了“合理直接路径”，就要看你的造化了。 生活是复杂的，总有需要带同手枪出行又不属于上述六种情况的事情。典型的例子是拥枪者搬家。 如果出现需要运送手枪出行而不符合6项情形的，拥枪者必须事先向火器局申请“运输授权证”（Authorization To Transport）。授权证可以填写申请表邮寄申请，也可以电话申请。在申请中，要明白说明出行目的、目的地地址、出行日期与时间、携运枪支资料等一应细节。获批之后，可以在指定时间携运指定枪支前往指定地点。 加拿大控枪法规对手枪运输的限制，大幅度减少了手枪在公共场所出现的几率。一枝在加拿大合法销售的手枪，几乎只会出现在拥枪者家中或是靶场，以及两点之间的直线路途。 如此严格的运输限制对拥枪者带来的不便是显然的。假若手枪出现点小毛病，或者在拆卸装配中遇到一点问题，拥枪者不可将其带往一个经验丰富的枪友处帮忙查看，除非那是正式注册枪支修理店。 可能认为如此严格的手枪运输限制还不够吧，2018年3月联邦政府提出新的法律草案，拟将上述6项情形减为2项，即拥枪者只可运输手枪往返靶场，以及将新购手枪运回家。其余所有手枪运输需求，都需要临时申请一次性“运输授权证”。除了文牍泛滥，史家之言看不出法案一旦通过对提高公共安全有什么助益。

在加拿大，如何合法拥有一支枪？首先，你必须去考牌照。参加至少一次培训、考两次试。但通过考试只表示你接受过培训，有了相应的知识，而是否能给你牌照，政府需要一段时间的评估和审核。一般来说需要两个认识你3年以上的人做推荐，同时如果你有配偶或同居关系的男女朋友，无论他们现在是否还跟你住在一起，必须要他们签字同意你申请，这个是很多人拿不到枪支牌照的主要原因，哈哈，搞不定老婆或老公。 其实从这个你也能看出了，如果你平时有家暴行为，有暴力倾向，或者做人脾气暴躁，你也很难拿到牌照，这也是加拿大枪支安全的一个因素。 申请到牌照以后，你就可以购买枪支了，可以去枪店买，超市买，或者网购给寄到家里。是的，买枪就是这么简单。 可买完了，如何“用枪”？各种繁琐规定就会让你头昏脑涨！ 加拿大《枪械管理法》规定枪支存放时首先要做到枪弹分离。如果在家中，枪支必须放入保险柜，该保险柜必须与地面固定连接，不可移动，且扳机必须用密码锁锁住，密码除持枪人不能让任何人得知，即使是家人也不能告知；如果外出放在车上，也必须枪弹分离，枪支必须放在车外看不到的地方，且车辆只能行驶于住家与猎场或者靶场最短距离的道路之间，不能开车去其他地方。 “枪弹分离”这个规定令人想想就蛋疼，但这个是据说经过统计表明，当很多人在愤怒的时候或极度沮丧试图自杀的时候，经过开锁拿枪，然后再到另一个地方拿子弹这个过程，他/她要么就冷静下来了，要么就被家人或邻居发现了，危害性就降低很多。 有人会问，如果有人闯进我家，我想拿枪自卫，还得东边去取枪、西边去拿子弹，还得在精神高度紧张中正确记起开锁密码，那还能自卫个毛啊！呵呵，你买枪是为了自卫？ NoNoNo，这个大前提就是错误的！要知道，加拿大政府允许你拥有枪支的为数不多的理由里并不包括“自卫”。在这么严格的枪支管理法下，可怜的加拿大民众持枪除了对准枪靶和猎物之外，剩下的作用可能只有对付自己了！
