It is affordable ONLY IF you also factor in gas savings, fewer maintenance costs (no oil change, no spark plugs, no timing belts, no brake rotor or pad change required with regen braking). Nissan Leaf is also an electric car and the cost is around $40k only.

Electric car manfacturers like NIO, XPEV are not making money at this moment as they are still ramping up economies of scale. You know, the variable cost vs fixed cost and breakeven point. They need to sell more cars to report positive earnings.

回复 Rigatini：as x owner , you just fogot how expensive the repair cost , how bad the initial quality is ! my x was sent to SC 4 times in the first half year under warranty and theres rattle nosie after 80000 km, they charged me $6000 for fixing the driving shaft still not get rid of issue . finally they charger me another $2000 replacing all 4 tires to solve the problem .The tsla has wonderful driving or accelation and they do save gas or maintaince in the long run anyway
