甘肃临夏州积石山县，18日深夜11时59分发生深度仅10公里的规模6.2地震，属于极浅强震，截至今凌晨4时，地震已造成至少86人遇难、96人受伤。目前已出动1440名消防人员赶赴灾区救援。

央视报导，震央石山县及周边民营及水、电、路等基础设施不同程度损坏。中国国家地震应变提升至二级，地震发生后，国家综合性消防救援队伍共出1440名消防救援人员赶赴灾区救援。

主震剧烈摇晃接近20秒，之后短短1小时内共记录到32次余震，其中最大震度4级，导致积石山县多间平房倒塌、墙壁崩落，还传出有民众受困。愈来愈多视频显示，大批民众在发生地震时纷纷逃到街上避难，不少人甚至还只穿着紧身内裤、裹床单甚至全裸冲出家门，就因担心小命不保。

截至周二凌晨2时，共记录到余震140次，最大震度规模4.1，其中规模3.0至3.9共计6次，规模4.0至4.9共计2次。甘肃消防总队在震后立即启动一级反应，调派共580名消防救援人员、88辆消防车、12只搜救犬，携带生命探测器等地震救援装备器材1万余件赶赴震央搜救，后增调至1440名消防救援人员。
