In 2001, Nortel terminated thousands of staff. May I one more time share your "painful" experience of the process.
1. 9 am - Staff came in to work.
2. 11 am - Staff on the hit list was told to attend a meeting in the conference room.
3. Coffee, tea and muffin served.
4. Staff was given a package of termination. The package consists of a termination letter with immediate effect (without any reasons, though everyone knew), a cheque (a staff with 2 years got 4 months - very generous, a staff with 20 years got 18 months. Math was not right, but that's what I heard from some of them), and post termination services (counseling, career counseling and benefits).
5. Staff was given 2 hours to pack and to sign off their equipments and IDs to HR.
Nobody would protest or go to a forum to ventilate. Some would book a trip to enjoy life first, and others would start looking for a job.
Nobody argued with HR why it was me, not Joe Smith.

The employers do not have to share the reasons for termination. Every termination is a potential lawsuit, so why do the employers share information before the court hearing?
即便这是你编造的理由,也无须申辩.临时工就象中国的农民工,法律对他们没有倾斜.工头不满意就是理由.
但是在用工期间辞退是一定要有书面说明的.这是常识.

签字备案生效.
根据楼主文帖,他们是被剥夺了合法权益的.

但是管工的态度极其强硬,接下来不肯听姜先生的解释,就一句话:要么马上去干活,要么回家。姜先生坚持要他解释,为什么这么做?为什么别人不干活也没人管,偏偏把所有的活都压到他们的头上?管工作为负责人,这样做是否合理?然而管工不再理睬他。"
几分钟后,当姜先生从洗手间回来的时候,管工手里拿着一张单子,上面写着工作时间“7-12点”,通知他们离开。
你觉得管工辞退他们哪里不对吗?

我10年前就曾经当过管工.即便开掉一个试用期的工人都必须给出理由.这个理由可能根本不是理由.但必须给出.否则对方有权利告你.
由经济公司介绍来的临时工人,确实不属于雇佣劳力的公司,但是他享受所有政府法定的各项劳工权益.而雇佣公司有义务保障劳工的权益.这就是加拿大.不因为你不是公民只是一个居民而剥夺你的所有合法权益.
中国人就这德性,就象挤汽车,自己上去了就拿屁股顶后来者.
尤其是那些洋奴们,生怕得罪了主子,任何情况下只会攻击自己的同类.所以,谁要在这里找个公道是自找没趣.给丫们找快感来了.
Let me share how a company or a government terminates the staff, based on my experience and the policies and procedures at my workplace.
1. Build a case before termination. Document the staff's problems and issue a performance statement which will go to the HR file. After the first and second warnings, there will be sufficient for a termination.
2. We can terminate on the spot, e.g. extreme situations, management staff.
3. Termination usually happens the first thing in the morning and is executed by HR staff.
4. HR staff will prepare a cheque and a demographic reference. The compensation is 3 weeks of salary every 1 year of service. If you have worked for 10 years, you get 30 weeks of salary. The demographic reference will state the start and end work dates and the last salary amount - no positive or negative comment.
5. No reason of termination will be provided because that will open up a potential lawsuit. The termination letter will state you will be no longer employed by the agency, with an effective date.
6. For staff on probation, we usually provide a cheque of 2 weeks salary, if terminated on the spot. No compensation if there is any fore warning.
7. For termination with just cause, no compensation will be provided.

The workplace is the property of the employer. The employer has the rights to ask anyone and any employee to leave. Just like in your house, you have the rights to ask your parents, your adult children, your relatives and your friends to leave.
If an employee exhibits behaviour not acceptable at the workplace, e.g. talk loud and disrespectful to the superior, the boss will ask you to go home, with or without pay.
A performance letter will be placed in your HR file. If the same repeats, you will be terminated with just cause.
That's right!
If I am the supervisor, I'll do the same thing -- let them go.

管工上有经理,为什么不去找经理投诉?据我所知管工没有权利开除员工。

even they are contacted worker. For example, if they have accident in work place, who is responsible for it.
朋友你是不是也是新移民,如果是contacted worker现在提早让他们回去,那么太好了,sears还要给他们人工直到contact完,他们其实是在为经纪公司打工,就好像是中国的保姆,保姆有个中间公司,如果我不喜欢我的保姆,那么去中间公司告诉他们换一个,就是那么简单,他们只是经纪公司找到的为sears工作的临时工人,而他们的老板就是经纪公司,如果是contacted worker通常是sears 直接聘请,不可能有中间公司。
不过经纪公司和需要员工的每一个公司是有合同的,就是经纪公司介绍的人,必须为他们工作3个月以后,公司才可以雇用。如果有合同,那么也是这2个人和经纪公司的合同,最多就是在3个月内帮助他们介绍工作。

I think they should have some relationship with Sears, even they are contacted worker. For example, if they have accident in work place, who is responsible for it.
There is nothing wrong that I suggest they go to get a response for this issue from Sears. If Sears say the work is finished, not fire them. How does these two guy do, still go to protest it ?
This topic is about suggestion.
Paper say they insisted to go to protest it. I say no person has such experience about this issue, if you success, it will help other people.
You are funny guy, both of us are not clear what this discussion want to do.
