加通社最新消息，随着原油价格每桶升破US$90，以及加拿大通货膨胀率在9月份达2.5%，今天早上开盘时加元汇率升至103.42美分，到上午11点时，又升至103.64美分，比周四收盘时上升0.94美分；而北美股市的主要指标则多数呈下跌之势。

加拿大统计局报告指出，原油价格攀升推动加拿大通货膨胀率上升，今年9月比8月升高0.8个百分点，为近一年以来最大的升幅。

TORONTO - With crude oil selling above US$90 a barrel for the first time and inflation rising, the Canadian dollar jumped above 103 cents US early Friday while global indicators were mostly negative for North American stock markets.

Statistics Canada reported that escalating gasoline prices pushed Canada's annual inflation rate to 2.5 per cent in September, a sharp increase from 1.7 per cent in August and the biggest jump in consumer prices in over a year.

The Canadian dollar opened at 103.42 cents US, up 0.72 of a cent.

Wall Street futures suggested a lower open as higher oil prices heightened concerns that more expensive fuel will hurt both businesses and consumers. Friday is also the 20th anniversary of Black Monday, when the Dow industrials plunged 23 per cent on concerns about interest rates and slowing economic growth.

Overseas, Japan's Nikkei stock average closed down 1.71 per cent. Financial markets in Hong Kong are closed Friday for the Chung Yeung grave-sweeping public holiday.

In early action, Britain's FTSE 100 was down 0.11 per cent, Germany's DAX index fell 0.22 per cent and France's CAC-40 fell 0.03 per cent.

The Canadian dollar traded at 103.64 cents US this morning, up 0.94 of a cent from Thursday's close. The U.S. dollar was trading at 96.49 cents Cdn, down 0.88 of a cent.

Pound sterling was worth C$1.9753, down 1.537 cents and US$2.0472, up 0.24 of a cent.

The euro was down 1.73 cents at C$1.3747.
