In a spousal sponsorship, there is no income requirement, so Ms Lin may not have an income. It is possible once her husband is deported, the sole income will disappear.
However, don’t forget the family can sell the business for a few millions.
I feel suspicious about the truth of his marriage and the validity
of source of the assets. Beside that, he also can sell the assets to support the family, so I support the government activity.

NDP asks Harper to have a heart
NDP MP Olivia Chow demands immediate changes to spousal sponsorship program
TORONTO – Married couples are being cruelly separated due to a heartless immigration policy, even while applications are in progress, said NDP Immigration Critic Olivia Chow (Trinity-Spadina).
“On this Valentine’s Day, the Immigration minister can bring love back to these divided families,” said Olivia Chow. “Immigrants deserve fairness and by enacting small changes, we can make a big impact for many families.”
At a press conference today, Chow was joined by Mrs. L. Chen (couple’s real name protected under request) who exposed the case of her husband, Mr. M. Chen, who has been asked to leave Canada. Mr. Chen has lived in Canada since 1995, manages a business worth $13 million and is his family’s sole source of financial support.
“After over a decade in this country, I have established meaningful personal and professional relationships” said Mr. Chen in his affidavit. “My wife is dependent on me, financially and emotionally and would be greatly harmed by my removal. The best interests of my 11-year old step-son in Canada warrant granting the deferral request.”
“The system does not have to be this complicated. Common sense, cooperation and contemplation of core Canadian values as reflected in the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act is the solution,” said Mr. Chen’s lawyer, Mario Bellissimo.
“For over a decade, minister after minister, Liberal or Conservative, has failed to support loving couples. It is absurd and cruel to separate families and cause emotional and financial hardship just because of a lack of political will,” said Chow.
Chow will be introducing legislation to stop the deportation of a spouse with an outstanding application for sponsorship by his/her Canadian partner.
