When discussing Idle No More with my white friends, they agree with the arguments that First Nation people had been treated poorly in the past but also regard that one can not live a positive life as a victim of the past. They are in favour of FN communities coming together as communities to fight the drug abuse, alcohol addictions, violence, high suicide rates and low literacy found on the reserves they called home. Not one believes that throwing federal money at these problems will adequately address these issues, or that blocking a busy highway or railway will increase the seriousness with which these issues will be considered. In other words, no one is able to improve your situation if you decide not to help yourself.
Unfortunately, Idle No More seems to be transforming the whole drama into a gang show and we Canadians are losing interest and compassion.
