Opticians叫验光师不妥，因为他们不能验光。能验光的是optometrists (OD)，所以叫验光师也不算错，特别是OD不是医师，眼科医师ophthomologists属于手术师。 Technically ODs conduct eye exams so the name 验光师 is appropriate whereas for opticians this is entirely out of their scope. You can't really call them eye doctors as well because the actual eye docs are MDs (ophthomologists). You might argue that ODs possess doctorates and because they can perform basic vision disease assessments and provide appropriate basic medical care they should be considered as eye docs, but the thing is mid-level practitioners like nurse practitioners, nurse anesthetists, and physician assistants all do the same things as actual MDs and in the States many of them actually have professional doctorates in NP or PA as well and we can't consider them as actual docs.
